Environmental Stewardship

Deckscapes of Virginia takes seriously its responsibility to help preserve our environment and natural resources for today and for future generations. In recognition of this we:

  • Recycle all construction and demolition debris through C & D Recovery, LLC of Manassas, Va.
  • In addition, we recycle all aggregates through C & D Recovery, LLC as well where it is crushed and reused.
  • We build our wood decks with pressure-treated wood that has been immersed in a liquid preservative and then placed in a pressure chamber to force the chemicals into the wood fibers. The resulting wood deck is resistant to rot, decay, termite damage, and water damage. This increases the lifecycle of the wood, thereby, reducing the need to replace it sooner.
  • 90% of the decks built by Deckscapes of Virginia are built with composite decking material. Composite decking on the market, as a rule, is made out of recycled plastic.
  • We have teamed up with Trex as our preferred composite decking supplier. One of the reasons for doing so it their record on the environment. Here are some key facts about Trex:
    • No trees are cut down to make Trex products
    • Largest plastic bag recycler in the U.S.
    • 720,000 pounds of bags are recycled in Trex Winchester, Va plant each week. That’s close to 48 million bags a week!
    • 140,000 recycled plastic bags are in the average 500-square foot composite Trex deck.
    • 70% of all plastic bags recycled in the U.S. are part of an in- store collection program used by Trex.
    • 3.1 Billion Recycled grocery bags were collected for use to manufacture Trex products in 2010.
    • 95% of each Trex composite products’ contents are recycled and reclaimed plastic and wood fibers.
    • Trex saves around 400 million pounds of plastic and wood scrap from landfills every year.
